30 Seconds to Mars Biography

30 seconds to Mars is a neo-progressive emo rock band from featuring with the infamous actor/musician Jared Leto as the lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter. Formed in 1998, 30 seconds to Mars started when Jared's brother Shannon decided to start a band in Los Angeles based on the influences of the likes of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Rush to other pioneering artists such as The Cure and Brian Eno. They wanted to do something never done before with music with a scope so large, they wanted to call in the legendary man who worked with most of these groups - Bob Ezrin.

They wanted 30 seconds to Mars to be a fantastical experience away from the chaos of the modern world with metaphors that invoke the imagination. Even the title implies that escape to somewhere else is only a few seconds away (a pace that people of this civilization is used to). As fantastical as they are, they make sure that the songs are tied to real stories and real personal human experiences.
Soon after their former members Solon Bixler and Kevin Drake left the band during touring, the remaining members came out with their debut self-titled debut album, 30 Seconds To Mars. It was made with new band mate Tomo Miličević and produced by their main man Bob Ezrin; it was released in 2002 to mixed reviews. Two singles came out of the album including, "Capricorn (A Brand New Name)" and "Edge of the Earth". They got to #31 on the rock charts with their efforts.

Even though Jared Leto is a relatively famous actor, he does not like to use that fact to promote his band. You could say that he likes to keep it real. In fact, he'll refuse to play at venues if they use his name as a main marketing ploy.
In 2005, their second album, A Beautiful Lie, was released. As a part of the album promotion, the band also enclosed "golden tickets" in random albums like in the chocolate factory that would give winners backstage passes as well as free tickets to any concert!

Over the next three years, they would be heavily involved in doing tours, actively promoting nonprofits, environmentally friendly ideas, and bringing awareness to third world countries. They would also become more famous, showing up at such events as the MTV music awards and winning numerous awards for their work.
